HBO Max Unveils New “Big Bang Theory” Spinoff
BAZINGA!!!
HBO Max recently revealed a first look at The Big Bang Theory spinoff series Stuart Fails to Save the Universe.
The series will star Big Bang cast members Kevin Sussman, Lauren Lapkus, Brian Posehn & John Ross Bowie. The new show centers around Big Bang Theory’s comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (played by Sussman). He tries to restore reality after damaging a device built by the characters Sheldon & Leonard from the original sitcom. The damaged device causes an inadvertent multiverse armageddon, leading to what the show will be about.
Joining Stuart on his quest to save humanity are his girl friend Denise (Lapkus), geologist Bert (Posehn) and the irritating physicist Barry Kripke (Bowie). As the show progresses, the characters will encounter alternate versions of well-known characters from the original sitcom. CCXP Mexico City, which serves as a major multi-genre pop culture festival and features the cast members on stage, unveiled the show.
“The fun is watching him fail every week”, Sussman stated on stage during the show’s unveiling.
Sussman also added that his character takes a leadership role, but adds that he isn’t very good at it. This doesn’t take away from the character’s awkwardness that we see in Big Bang, though.
The Big Bang Theory aired in 2007 and ran for twelve seasons. The sitcom followed physicists and roommates Dr. Sheldon Cooper & Dr. Leonard Hofstadter, who both work at the California Institute of Technology. Throughout the series we follow the duo’s various nerdy hijinks.
Their co-workers, aerospace engineer Howard (Simon Helberg) and astrophysicist Raj, join in on romantic subplots between Leonard’s love interest Penny (Kaley Cuoco), an aspiring actress who lives across the hall.
Since its airing, the show received seven Emmy Awards along with 46 nominations. It has also spawned fellow spinoffs such as Young Sheldon (which focuses on the early life of Sheldon in his home state of Texas) and its offshoot sitcom Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage which is currently airing its second season on CBS.
