The 2022 Street League Skateboarding Tour

The 2022 Street League Skateboarding Tour

The 2022 Street League Skateboarding Championship Tour began this past weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. Many Olympians were present in the competition and very much made their presence known.

Women’s

Brazilian Rayssa Leal is just 14 years old and placed first in this year’s Street League Skateboarding event title in Jacksonville. She managed 23.2 to just beat out her Japanese opponent Oda Yumeka. Yumeka is just a year older than Leal, scoring 23.0. It was a nail biter between the two as Yumeka had gotten a 9.4 during one of her rounds with a flip front feeble. However, Leal was able to get a 7.6 on her final trick. Which was just enough to put her over the edge of Yumeka’s score. Leal competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics, as the youngest athlete to ever represent Brazil, and won a silver medal for her country. Leal is defiantly set to be the favorite for this year’s Street League Tour since last year she was the first woman to accomplish a 360º flip followed by a handrail maneuver in an official competition. Leal has some time to rest until the next stop on the tour, but viewers are very much looking forward to what she will bring next.

Men’s

A 23-year-old Japanese skateboarder, Yuto Horigome, placed first at this Jacksonville event. Leading the group with a final score of 28.1. Horigome has been at the top of the leaderboard in most of his events after going pro in 2019. He was the first person to win Gold in a skateboarding event at the Summer 2020 Olympics. Similar to the women’s competition, he narrowly beat his fellow Japanese opponent, 20-year-old Sora Shira. Shira’s final score was just .3 under at 27.8. Shira has not competed in so many pro events, so even though he came in second, it’s a huge accomplishment to be so close to being 1st on the podium. Since these two were so close in points, it will be interesting to see what efforts the second event on the tour will bring.

The next stop of the 2022 Street League Skateboarding Tour is in Seattle, Washington on August 13-14. To check out more from the even visit https://www.streetleague.com/.
