Meg Donnelly’s Single “In My Bag” Brings Nostalgia

Towards the tail end of 2024 and to start 2025, there was a TikTok trend to Meg Donnelly’s hit song “in my bag” where people would break out into dance to the upbeat party song. This trend brought a lot of young adults back to their “Disney Channel era” as they call it.

With the song being so nostalgic for many around the country, it also had so nostalgic moments for me with every time I listen to the upbeat track. Though others’ nostalgia comes from personal experience, mine comes from a certain quarterback who played for the New England Patriots who you may know as Tom Brady.

The seven-time Super Bowl Champion and future Hall of Famer was always in his bag so-to-speak. When it came to getting the ball down the field when it was needed most, Brady was the man to answer the call. From forcing the first Super Bowl overtime in 51, to finishing 2-0 against Patrick Mahomes, and even winning a Super Bowl over the age of 40 as a starting quarterback.

“I’m a slave to this rush

When I slay it’s look don’t touch

Come ride my wave

But don’t do too much…”

These lyrics scream Tom Brady to me seeing that the elite quarterback was in a sense a slave to the rush of the game of football. In many interviews and just from his presence on TV, Brady loved and still does love the game. Since his retirement you would think the future Hall of Famer would leave the game behind and spend more time with his family. Not Brady. Instead, he is a color analyst for FOX and covers games during the NFL season on top of being a minority owner with the Las Vegas Raiders. If that doesn’t show his unwavering love for the game then I don’t know what will.

The last two lines “come ride my wave but don’t do too much” are really a testament to the way he played the game. Tom Brady was a perfectionist and always has been a perfectionist since his childhood, per his parents. With that being said, when it came to the game of football Brady wanted everything to be done correctly and when it wasn’t, boy would he tell you about it.

Though Meg Donnelly wasn’t taking about touchdowns and passing yards in her single “in my bag,” but the words really do resemble the GOAT and his demeanor towards the game that he loves. Nostalgia has been the key thing in today’s music. If you don’t have nostalgia, you don’t have anything to connect to sometimes.
