Athletes Wearing Designer Brands
Tom Daley
Olympic diver, Tom Daley, has been dressing in Christian Dior for the last few years. Daley made videos with the luxury brand showcasing activities he participates in, like knitting and drinking tea, before attending the Men’s fall 2022 fashion show. Daley got recognized at the Tokyo Olympics for knitting between games which Dior seems to be taking a liking to. Daley has been wearing the brand as recently as this month. He posted a picture of himself on Instagram wearing a Dior suit after being awarded an OBE, an Order of the British Empire, for his services in sports, LGBTQ+ rights, and charity. It will be no surprise that we will see Daley dressed in more Dior as his Olympic career progresses.
Simone Biles
Last year, Biles left her deal with Nike to sign with Athleta. The brand is not necessarily known for luxury fashion, but that did not stop them from designing something special for Biles. For the 2021 Met Gala, combining with the designer brand Area, Athleta designed a 88lbs gown made of an embellished skirt with Swarovski Crystals for Biles. Underneath this skirt she wore a mini dress and a black catsuit that resembled stars in the sky. Biles continues to collaborate with Athleta by promoting their sportswear.
LeBron James
Forbes magazine has named LeBron James the King of designer brand Thom Browne. It seems the L.A. Laker is an unlikely suitor for the brand based on the type of smaller structure for their mid-century modern suits, but James has become an avid representer. When the brand collaborated with James in 2018, it was a great visibility moment for the brand as James began to dress in their suits before games.
Russel Westbrook
Another L.A. Laker who has been put onto Thom Browne is Russell Westbrook, who wore a black tailored jacket and skirt at the Met Gala earlier this year. Along with an adoring top hat, striped socks, and some simple black lace-up shoes. Westbrook stated he has always been a fan of Browne’s consistency and uniqueness, explaining he was excited to wear the brand that night.
