DNC Speakers Called For Harmony In The Country During The Four-Day Long Convention

As the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, presidential nominee Joe Biden took the stage for what many consider to be the one of the most important elections in the country’s history.

“The current president has cloaked America in darkness for much too long,” Biden said, “too much anger, too much fear, too much division.”

The last night of the DNC opened with a video that displayed Biden’s mission to cure cancer. Cancer Moonshot, a program that started while Biden was the vice president under the Obama administration. The intentions of this video were also meant to reach out to Republican voters by giving viewers something that they can relate to regardless of their political position.

In addition to Joe Biden, the list of Thursday’s speakers included former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker, former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, and many more. Referring to a personal story about his grandfather, Booker said, “So like his generation, up out of the Depression; let’s now work together and stand together and America, together, will rise.”

During the convention, many politicians honored the late John Lewis. Near the beginning of Lewis’ activism career, he fought for the right to vote, and that’s exactly what the democratic speakers pushed for during the honoring.

On Monday, former first lady Michelle Obama closed the first night with a plea for empathy and an emphasis on the importance of voting. She said that Trump is the “wrong president” for the U.S. and that if we want to see an end to this “chaos, we have got to vote for Joe Biden like our lives depend on it.”

According to the Financial Times, Biden is currently on track to winning the presidential election as he has more states siding with him than Trump. However, the Republican National Convention that will take place next week will impact that dynamic, whether in favor of Trump or Biden.

Many voters are considering voting by mail since the COVID-19 pandemic makes in-person voting seem unsafe. Nevertheless, Trump sees absentee ballots as a way for the election to be rigged, and because of this he says that he won’t agree to accept the results of the 2020 election.

As we approach election day in a few months, many states are giving options to submit their votes by mail. There are some that require a reason beyond the pandemic to cast their absentee ballots, which coincidentally happens to be the same states that typically vote Republican. Speakers from the DNC are urging the public to vote, whichever way they can, to bring the country back on the track to unity.
