Snowfall
Entering its fifth season, “Snowfall” has more than solidified its standing as one of the best dramas on television. Since its debut in 2017 on FX, the show has seen maturity through its characters and episodes each season.
Background
Starting out as an amateur drug dealer and prep school dropout, Franklin Saint, played by Damson Idris, has made his way to being one of the largest drug distributors in the world. The 1980s period drama impresses viewers as family members and the CIA causes problems for Saint’s thriving drug business. The Black community in Los Angeles in the 1980s falls into the crack-cocaine epidemic and Saint thrives off of it as he moves up in the drug trade.
Season Five Plot
Firstly, the story jumps one year ahead as Saint is portrayed in the summer of 1986. He is now the largest crack cocaine distributor in the world. Therefore, the consequences of this new title can be felt nationwide. Secondly, Saint’s Uncle Jerome and Aunt Louie, played by Amin Joseph and Angela Lewis, respectively, want to become independent dealers. This causes Saint to essentially become their middleman.
Amid his drug business, Saint is in a long-term relationship with a new character. Series newcomer Veronique, played by Devyn Tyler, is pregnant with his child. She is also a real estate manager. Saint wants to invest in some downtown Los Angeles real estate and take a more hands-off role in his drug business. Veronique can help him with this tie to the white-collar industry. In the fourth episode of the season, Saint’s mother Cissy, played by Michael Hyatt, makes an appearance. She seems to have some ideas of her own and as a result, this causes Saint some stress.
Final Thoughts
In short, with its social commentary and amazing acting performances, “Snowfall” establishes itself as one of the best dramas on television.
