Netflix and 3000 Pictures Cast Emily Bader and Tom Blyth in ‘People We Meet on Vacation’ Adaptation
Tom Blyth and Emily Bader have been cast as the leads in the highly anticipated adaptation of Emily Henry’s hit novel People We Meet on Vacation, it was announced Friday morning.
Bader will star as Poppy Wright and Blyth as Alex Nilsen–two longtime best friends who had taken annual summer vacations together until things went wrong on one trip, causing them to not speak for two years. Poppy reaches out to Alex for one last trip in an attempt to rekindle their friendship, forcing the pair to confront the question of whether there had always been more to their relationship.
People We Meet on Vacation is one of five Emily Henry book adaptations currently in development. Beach Read, Book Lovers, and Funny Story are set to be adapted into films while Happy Place will be a Netflix series.
Henry’s People We Meet on Vacation was first published in 2021 by Berkley, an imprint of Penguin Random House. It debuted at No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list and has sold over 2 million copies in the U.S.
The film will be produced by Netflix in partnership with Sony Pictures with Brett Haley set to direct and Yulin Kuang adapting the screenplay.
Both Blyth and Bader are no stranger to screen adaptations of popular novels. Blyth most recently starred in Lionsgate’s The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes as young Coriolanus Snow. Bader just had her breakout role as the headstrong, witty Jane Grey in Amazon Prime Video’s satirical fantasy series adaptation of My Lady Jane.
“I’ve been kind of an anxious wreck about who would play these characters,” Henry told Netflix’s Tudum. “I truly could not feel more confident that my readers and then so many more people who don’t even know about the book are going to completely fall in love with Poppy and Alex.”
While the adaptation does not have a set release date yet, fans have lots to look forward to with the film entering early production stages.
