Modest Now Brings Global Modest Fashion to NYFW
Modest fashion took on a distinctly global perspective during New York Fashion Week as Modest Now returned for its second NYFW showcase, creating a platform where cultural heritage, contemporary design, and modern luxury could meet on the runway.
Co-founded by creative director and fashion industry veteran Dina Barber-Eski and author, strategist, and community builder Fatima Younus, Modest Now was established to address what its founders see as a longstanding gap in mainstream fashion: a permanent and visible platform for modest designers and the international perspectives shaping the category.
Rather than treating modest fashion as a singular aesthetic, the platform approaches it as an evolving expression of culture, identity, craftsmanship, and personal style.
That philosophy came to life during the Spring/Summer 2027 showcase through Agni by Vita Bayu Putri X A D I T H and its collection, Fatimah.
Centered on the theme “Traces of Time in a Fabric,” the collection considered how time and experience can add character rather than diminish beauty. Refined shades, including Cloud Dancer, provided a sophisticated foundation for a collection that connected Eastern heritage with a forward-looking approach to fashion.
“The East is not the past. It is the future,” the brand stated. “We exist to give Eastern talent a global stage—where heritage becomes innovation, culture becomes contemporary, and tradition becomes tomorrow.”
The sentiment reflected the larger purpose behind Modest Now.
For Barber-Eski and Younus, placing designers on a New York runway represents only one part of the equation. The platform is also focused on connecting international talent with editorial exposure, creative resources, industry relationships, and commercial opportunities capable of extending well beyond fashion week.
“Modest fashion deserves more than a moment on the runway. It deserves infrastructure, investment, editorial attention, and a permanent seat at the table,” Barber-Eski said.
That distinction is important as modest fashion continues to expand beyond assumptions about what the category should look like. Coverage, layering, craftsmanship, and cultural references can coexist with experimentation and luxury without sacrificing individuality.
Modest Now’s NYFW platform makes that argument through fashion itself.
Following its debut during the February season, its Spring/Summer 2027 return continued the founders’ effort to position participating designers not simply as representatives of modest fashion but as contributors to the larger international fashion conversation.
With heritage serving as a foundation rather than a limitation, Modest Now presented a vision of modest dressing that looks firmly toward the future.
