Artist, designer, creative genius, son, husband, and father, are just some of the words that represent who Virgil Abloh was. The designer is known for his Italian luxury fashion label Off-White. Along with that, He was also the artistic director of Louis Vuitton’s menswear. Yesterday evening Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the fashion icon by hosting his final runway show, “Virgil Was Here” in Miami. The show was set to feature Abloh’s Spring-Summer collection 2022 Collection.

Virgil Was Here

An Instagram post by Louis Vuitton a day before the show, revealed a promotion video. In the caption of the post Michael Burke, Chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton said,

“Virgil was not only a friend, great collaborator, creative genius, visionary and disruptor, but also one of the best cultural communicators of our times. He paved the way for future generations. As a devoted supporter of his community through his charities and passions, he was an eternal optimist who believed anything was possible.”

Burke went on to say that Louis Vuitton would proudly celebrate his legacy with a final show in Miami, per his wishes.

At the show a statue of Abloh was unveiled. Along with that, there was also a drone show. Additionally, the drones lit up the sky with a clear message in red lights: “Virgil Was Here.”

Attendees Of The Show

Some of the attendees from this show include, Ye, Kim Kardashian, North West, Bella Hadid, and Pharrell. This comes as no surprise as Abloh helped create album covers for Ye’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy” and “Yeezus.” With this in mind, Ye dedicated his latest Sunday Service performance to Abloh by having the choir perform “Easy On Me” by Adele.

Many familiar faces hit the runway during this show. Rappers, Kid Cudi, Offset, and Quavo are some of the few who walked the runway. Cudi and Abloh worked together often on Cudi’s evolving style, not to mention he walked in Abloh’s first Louis Vuitton show in 2018.
