UNITED COLLECTIVE F/W 2021 Collection
Menswear brand UNITED COLLECTIVE unveiled their Fall/Winter 2021 collection entitled “Sartorial Adolescence” on February 15. This is the brand’s 5th collection. UNITED COLLECTIVE is a workwear brand focused on comfort and movement. The brand’s website writes, “UNTITLED COLLECTIVE is an artist collective based in New York focusing on breaking the perception of workwear for creative ones.”

The 2021 collection consists of warm, professional, workwear clothes that are slightly oversized to provide mobility. The color palette is neutral, with blacks, tans, and greys being the only colors in the collection. These colors are fitting for a New York City winter, where the brand is from. The long trench coats and suits fit in with outfits you would see on the subway, but with a unique twist. Instead of being heavily tailored and cut to fit the person’s exact height, the pants are loose and long; easier to move around in.

The clothes being loose and free speak to the “adolescence” aspect of the collection’s title. Essentially, the collection embodies the union of elegance and youth. It depicts a new, young image of workwear and professionalism.
“Inspired by the rebellious, sublime energy and body language of the youth in New York, the team plays with the tension between vulnerability and resilience, fluidity and structure,” writes the brand. It also cites inspiration from young artists in New York City.

Leather, khaki, button-up shirts, black suits, and black turtlenecks are staples of the collection. The fabrics are consistent with normal workwear clothes, but the large amount of leather in the collection adds an edgy, rebellious side. Many of the models also have long or curly hair, which challenges the classic definition of professional male hair, which is usually short and straight. Models wore black boots or professional shoes.
