Tomo Koizumi Presents FW23 FOR Milan Fashion Week

Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi makes a fashion week comeback with the effervescent Fall/Winter 2023 collection, presented in Milan. Koizumi’s designs are playful and exuberant, with bright pops of color and dramatic ruffles made from organza, a wedding dress fabric, slightly thicker than tulle.

The Collection

The first look lays the foundation for the greater part of the collection, with a striped ROYGBIV bodycon, finished with a ruffled trim, and styled with neon green heels and a corsage choker. Vivacious ruffled gowns dominate the collection in vibrant color combinations. The hot pink ruffled dress with an orange and purple cape makes the model look like a walking sunrise, whereas the pink and blue ombre in skirt & jacket two-piece sets off the cotton candy cravings.

The rainbows make their return during the finale, starting with an oversized jumpsuit covering the model in ruffles from neck to toe, just as the multi-colored shrug that follows, paired with dusty purple leg warmers. Finally, five models walk the runway in classic human-centipede fashion, draped in a bright ruffled fabric.

Brand History

Tomo Koizumi launched his brand in 2011 while studying at National Chiba University. His career took off when stylist Katie Grand found Koizumi’s Instagram thanks to designer Giles Deacon. Koizumi made his debut during New York Fashion Week in 2019. He showcased his Fall Winter collection with the support of Grand and Marc Jacobs. Models including Bella Hadid and Emily Ratajkowski presented the clothing. That same year, contributing editor of Vogue Thailand Nichapat Suphap wore one of his looks to the Met Gala.
