Lívia Gueissaz recently analyzed highlights of the Spring/Summer 2025 runway bags, spanning from Prada to Valentino and every label in between. Regarding occupational titles, Lívia Gueissaz is both an ambassador of the Indigenous Peoples Cup and an influencer. Lívia consistently and expertly notes what impacts sustainability, fashion, and lifestyle.
“Handbags are now more than just an accessory. They symbolize the individuality and personality of those who carry them. Each season, the major brands surprise us with new interpretations of their iconic pieces, and Summer 2025 was no exception. Creativity and boldness were the stars of the runway, and each maison brought something unique and innovative to the fashion stage,” explains Lívia Gueissaz.
Classic, Elegant, and Minimalist
Over 70 years ago, Gucci created its first ever bamboo handle bag. Society has changed since then, but the bag reappeared in the brand’s Spring/Summer 2025 show. Its classic shape reappeared with a modern touch. “Gucci has always known how to incorporate its iconic design elements while bringing them into the present context. The bamboo handle is a symbol of the brand’s legacy, and its modern reinterpretation fits perfectly into Gucci’s cool, retro-chic aesthetic,” says Lívia.
The light has continuously shined on Prada since the house’s opening in 1913. The minimalist style of the 2025 black hobo bag continues this legacy. “Prada is a master at creating pieces that are both utilitarian and chic. The hobo bag, with its flawless finish and sleek lines, is the perfect balance between simplicity and sophistication,” notes Lívia.
Since its beginning, Fendi exudes an elegant flair. The brand’s clothes are equally as chic and simple as its accessories. In terms of runway bags, 2025 was the year for exquisite Fendi embroidery. “Fendi continues to impress with its ability to blend luxury with craftsmanship. The bags of this season are proof that fashion can be both artistic and wearable,” says Lívia.
Bold, Playful, and Vibrant
Louis Vuitton runway shows are often expressive and bright. Within its collections, the house brings light and vibrance to the shows. Specifically, Lívia notes the bags seemingly made of hand-painted trunks and the clutch in the shape of a fan. “What Louis Vuitton has done is reimagine its traditions in leather goods. By transforming classic accessories into almost museum-like pieces, the brand continues to set the standard for blending tradition with modernity,” states Lívia.
Additionally, an analysis of runway bags cannot go without mentioning the Hermès Birkin. This bag’s iconic outside body was replaced with its inside structure. “It’s a statement of boldness and innovation. Hermès continues to challenge the status quo, maintaining functionality and elegance, but with a disruptive twist that draws attention to the impeccable craftsmanship of the piece,” notes Lívia. Ultimately, the choice to reveal the internal aspects of the Birkin, was more than an illusion for Lívia.
Creativity and Spirit
Roberto Cavalli and Valentino appeared to share vibrant yet distinctive themes with their bags. Roberto Cavalli created bags with jeweled tiger handles, while Valentino crafted doll-like clutches. Lívia elaborates saying, “these pieces are a perfect example of how fashion can be fun and expressive. It’s details like these that turn an accessory into something memorable, almost collectible.”
Ultimately, runway shows are full of art. Specifically, the runway bags of 2025 took over the spotlight. Luxury designers proved again that they are distinctive and original. To Lívia Gueissaz, these shows will be marked in history, “Each of these brands has managed, in its own unique way, to innovate while honoring its heritage. Summer 2025 will be remembered as a season of experimentation and celebration of the classic identities of the world’s greatest fashion houses, with luxury remaining the key element.”
