Louis Shengtao Chen: Orgasmic

Louis Shengtao Chen: Orgasmic

Louis Shengtao Chen released his newest 2024 Spring/Summer collection titled Orgasmic, honoring beauty being uncovered.

The designer graduated from Central Saint Martins in London, a world renowned arts and design college, and before that, his past experience in the fashion world was as a fashion model. This gives Shengtao Chen a lot of credibility and creativity that shows off in this collection.

Shengtao Chen explains the collection name Orgasmic. “I often feel that the result is not the most beautiful part of the story. Beauty exists in every little moment of discovering beauty, an ecstatic sensation that resonates from the core to the brain. This sometimes painful process, so exquisite, addictive, and it stirs me, attracts me.”

This fashion show was held on October 9th in Shanghai. The collection explores each feeling of excitement when beauty is being uncovered. The designer plays with the vulnerable feelings of the shame of expressing, yet wanting to express.

In this look, the designer showed how he turned cloth and fabric into layers of skin peeling. As you can see in the designs, the skin peels until all the raw form and edges are shown in bare skin, unveiling one’s true self.

More of the collection features tons of little details that makes Shengtao Chen stand out from other designers. Including red sequins, lace-covered eyes, oversized peacoats paired with pearl embroidered mesh dresses, and headscarves disguising one’s identity, representing a snake.

And finally, the collection features red linings under an English checkered overcoat with burgundy stockings, and an Artificial Intelligence doll face print on a puffed skirt which shows the ins and outs of sophistication, making fun of its own presence.
