Infinite Tweed: Chanel 2022 Pre-Fall Collection

Infinite Tweed: Chanel 2022 Pre-Fall Collection

On the last day of Paris Fashion Week, Chanel gave us- TWEED! The Chanel’s *Scream Queen Reference* would rave over this Chanel!

On Tuesday, Chanel’s luxury fashion brand paid homage to its mainstay, tweed, at the Fall 2022 Paris Fashion Week showcase. However, the collection wasn’t the only thing adorned in the material; tweed-covered walls, flooring, and seats at the show’s venue greeted the show attendees. It’s safe to say that Chanel was reclaiming creative ownership of the textile from its rivals.

Virginie Viard deserves commendment for the Chanel Pre-Fall collection and color palette inspired by images of the River Tweed in Scotland shot by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. The assemblage features a variety of colors from pink to purple, green, blue, and earth tones that represent the river’s brown cast, stone bridge, and sunsets.

Although tweed was the principal material and focus of the show, Chanel displayed the versatility of the textile through its pairing with other fabrics and silhouettes inspired by the history of the brand. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel often borrowed from her lover, the Duke of Westminster’s wardrobe. While Chanel is known for its femininity, the collection includes ensembles inspired by menswear. Suits, oversized jackets, coats with military pockets, and rubber boots are made of silhouettes inspired by menswear. Skirts, mini dresses, sequined and feather garments brought femininity back to the collection.

Viard’s accessorizing was also essential to the show. Looks were accessorized with thigh-high stockings, wader boots, sling-back kitten heels, and the classic chain strap handbags. Hairstylist James Picus styled 15 models with bobs inspired by England in the 60s to complement the collection.

In support of the showcase, attendees also displayed the versatility and diversity of tweed in their looks despite there not being a dress code. Chanel has announced they will suspend business in Russia in support of Ukraine.

Chanel has proven to be a brand dedicated to luxury products and global ethical affairs.
