Gran Canaria Swim Week Returns

Gran Canaria Swim Week Returns

The Cabildo of Gran Canaria presented today, within the framework of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid, the next edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, which will be held from October 20th to 23rd at the Expomeloneras venue in Maspalomas (Gran Canary).

The swimwear fashion show, the only European event in its category, was born from the firm commitment of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria with the fashion industry from over 26 years. In this new edition, Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida reinforces its position as an international benchmark in swimwear, being the key event of its kind within the European catwalk circuit. The professionalization of the catwalk, one of the pillars of the strategy carried out by the Cabildo of Gran Canaria to promote the event, focuses on a program of runways that always incorporates prestigious names from the current design scene, both Canarian , as national and international.

The alliance between the Cabildo of Gran Canaria and IFEMA MADRID has strongly promoted the internationalization of the catwalk, which has positioned itself in the international fashion headers. Proof of this drive for the internationalization of the event is the participation of the Canarian designer Aurelia Gil in the international catwalk Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Madrid.

Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida will bring in this edition around 40 designers and brands, of which 11 are Canarian –from Gran Canaria and other islands of the archipelago-; 10 from the Peninsula, and 8 international. All of them will present their Spring Summer 2023 collections on the catwalk. The complete calendar of this 2022 edition will be announced soon, among with the new incorporations and of course with the participation of recognized designers such as the Canarian Aurelia Gil and Elena Morales; the nationals Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada and Dolores Cortés; the English Melisa Odabash, who repeats for the second consecutive year; or the Colombian Mola Mola, which debuts in the new edition of Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida.

The event in Madrid was presented by Minerva Alonso Santana, Minister of Industry, Commerce and Crafts of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria. Along with her was Juan Arrizabalaga, general director of IFEMA MADRID, and Aurelia Gil, a designer from the Canary Islands who is making her debut at MBFWM this Saturday.

Juan Arrizabalaga, General Director of IFEMA MADRID, started pointing out that “Four years after our alliance with Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida, we are proud to see that we have advanced by focusing on the professionalization of the catwalk, attracting new buyers and the national and international press. We work side by side with to contribute to position the catwalk as the benchmark in swimwear fashion.’’

On the other side the councilor of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria has congratulated the designer Aurelia Gil, who debuts at MBFWM tomorrow: ”First of all I would like to congratulate Aurelia Gil for her dedication and perseverance and for continuing to accompany us year after year. We consolidate ourselves as the swimwear catwalk in Europe, being a benchmark. This year we are once again committed to advancing in internationalization with brands from the UK, Germany, Colombia, Israel, Italy, Sweden and Denmark. Swimwear fashion week has taken a qualitative leap thanks to the collaboration established with IFEMA. We are making this project great.’’

‘’Tomorrow I debut on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week catwalk and I have to thank Gran Canaria Swim Week by Moda Cálida very much, as they have accompanied me in all my proposals to get here. In 2023 the firm turns 20 and to celebrate it we present 365, a collection of sustainable swimwear with streetwear options. 365 is a collection that transmits the Canarian spirit and in which I have collaborated with female talents from the Canary Islands.’’ has pointed out the designer Aurelia Gil.
