New Heliot Emil Collection Features Models On Fire
On day two of Paris Fashion Week, luxury brand Heliot Emil debuted a collection that one might literally call “fire” after a model was sent down the runway in flames.
Up In Flames
The all black look consists of a drawstring hoodie, cargo pants, and an oversized boot, finished with a bag that resembles a toolbox. The stuntman sporting the outfit ablaze shocked audience members as he strutted past. However, there is more to the collection than the man on fire.
Inspiration
The collection takes inspiration from the works of sculptor Henry Moore, which are typically abstract in nature. Also, the brand experiments with industrial aesthetics, incorporating liquid metal, ropes, straps and zips. The liquid metal puffer jacket is stuffed with down feathers, obtained from duck or geese and features a front zip closure with welt pockets.
Anatomical References
Also inspired by Moore, whose sculptures often suggest a human-like form, the brand employs atypical silhouettes. These alter the shape of the body. The opening look features a model with a belt strapped around her chest, with a puffer jacket zipped up at the waist. Similarly, horizontal front zips and asymmetrical cuts prevail throughout the collection. This also includes zip-up leg warmers or jersey dresses with slits that expose the skin. Also, oversized fits dominate, with belts ropes secured in an atypical manner that further contort the body.
Behind the Brand
The minds behind the Copenhagen-based ready-to-wear brand are brothers Julius and Victor Juul. The brand’s first collection was on view during Spring/Summer 17 season in Milan, built on the foundation of customization, detail, and aesthetics. Now, the brand offers a variety of current and archival looks available for purchase on their online store, heliotemil.com, however, some items have a sparse supply.
