Giving a chance for the best Asian designers to make a name for themselves, Asia Fashion Collection (AFC), gave designers from all around Asia a chance to compete in a NYFW runway debut.
From Japan are three designers: kaoism(e) by Kao Tomiyama, diaments colour by Daisuke Oguchi, and YONLOKSAN by Aoi Niikuni. Additionally, is continued_studio by South Korean designer Newman Han and Syzygy by Taiwan’s Yuan Lung Kao.
A Look Into The Collections:
kaoism(e): Drawing from the idea of dressing up and inspired by a TV actress once seen on TV by Kao Tomiyama, kaoism(e) takes colors, prints, and patterns to a new level.
diaments colour: Using the social issues that surround immigration, and inspired by the pandemic, Daisuke Oguchi uses his own cultural experiences and knowledge for this collection.
With genderless and timeless pieces, Oguchi encourages viewers to look at his collection like the plot of a movie–with concepts unfolding the closer you get.
YONLOKSAN: “Defining the existence of the intangible”, Aoi Niikuni is inspired by things that don’t already exist. Embracing a minimal aesthetic, her designs are up-front, but packed with detail.
continued_studio: Also a genderless and contemporary collection by Newman Han, the pieces are inspired by utility and transport through the lens of a solider. Using functional materials and innovative techniques, Han’s aesthetic is practical and comfortable.
Syzygy: Inspired by space and its many wonders, Syzygy takes top quality products, like Milano wool, and uses design methods like digital knitting, digital print design and laser cutting.
Due to Covid19, all shows were digital in the designers’ hometowns.
