Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new fav sustainable men’s swimwear brand: Hommes Oil Company. Might sound like a strange name for a fashion brand but Hommes Oil Company has a rich history of once being a chain gas station in the Washington D.C. area. Founder Daniel DuGoff has taken his family’s gas station business and completely changed the game turning it into an inclusive, conscious fashion label.
Hommes Oil Company:
Homes Oil Company (with one M) is the original gas station company that went by the name “HOMOCO” for short, until the AIDS crisis in the ‘80s, when the family decided to change the name to Homes Oil. DuGoff says, “Now is not the time to be timid with a brand. Why shouldn’t this brand be proud of its nickname—HOMOCO?”
Hommes Oil Company makes printed swim trunks out of recycled plastic and donate a portion of their sales to ocean conservation and to organizations that champion queer rights. This is the new generation of fashion with sustainable men’s swimwear and all inclusive sizing. Aren’t they the coolest?
Hommes Bottle Tank – Grey ($29)
Daniel DuGoff entered the world of fashion after studying architecture, he worked for Patrik Ervell and Marc Jacobs, and then launched a designer menswear brand, DDUGOFF. He was named Forbes 30 Under 30 in 2016 and joined the CFDA (Fashion Incubator) 4.0 class, and from there he took his love for prints to the beach creating fun swimwear.
Truck Print Trunks ($69)
The website splits up the fashion between versatile tops and power bottoms. The versatile tops feature a range of fun t-shirts, tanks, and hats. The bottoms are funky printed swim trunks at just the right length of not being too short or too long. Sizes range from XS to 4XL.
The swimwear and shirts are not exclusive to just men despite the models all being men. DuGoff designed these shirts and shorts to be for all genders and available in many sizes as a way to include everyone.
