An Interview With Nigel Jones
An actor, and entrepreneur, and a wellness advocate. Nigel Jones is all of these and more. He is well-known for his starring appearances in Netflix’s Too Hot to Handle and Perfect Match. His roles on these shows launched him to stardom. Since then, his social media following has grown exponentially. The Garnette Report interviewed Nigel Jones on how he handles fame, his wellness mindset, and more.
1. What’s one lesson you learned from starring in Perfect Match and Too Hot to Handle?
One lesson that I’ve learned is to live in the moment and soak everything up because everything happens so fast. Filming, the challenges, downtime with your friends on the show etc. Also, don’t have any expectations on what makes the edit on the final cut.
2. How has fame impacted your daily life?
My daily life is pretty much the same besides when I go out. A lot of people tend to notice me and want to take pictures or ask about the show. It’s a surreal feeling. Also, it’s pretty dope that I can make money off my name and likeness.
3. When you were a child, did you want to be famous?
I feel like everyone pictured themselves famous when they’re young. I never thought it’d come to fruition, especially from reality tv. I’ve always seen myself as an actor, which I’m currently pursuing now.
4. In both of the Netflix series, was it easy for you to acclimate to being around cameras?
Honestly, I never really got acclimated to the cameras because they are right in your face almost 24/7 so it was kind of hard for me to be my 100% self. Although, they get easier to deal with through time. In the back of your head, you know millions of people are going to see what you say and do which is exciting. It’s uneasy at the same time because you don’t want to do anything cringe or look a certain way.
5. What does your hometown New Jersey mean to you?
Originally, I’m from Yeadon, Pennsylvania. I moved to New Jersey when I was a teenager. The community of Yeadon is like a family. Everyone knows and looks out for one another. So, I was glad to put both towns on the map and have people from there be proud of me.
6. How has your journey through real estate gone so far?
Tough, but everything has its challenges. Luckily, I have a good group of people by my side to help if needed. It can sometimes be a slow grind and mentally draining, but the end result makes it worth it.
7. What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs?
Don’t be afraid to try new things or to fail. Step out of your comfort zone, take time out of your day to perfect your craft. Networking is key, you never know who you might meet to put you in a position to win. Ask questions and nothing happens overnight.
8 What impact has fitness had on your life so far?
Fitness gave my life discipline, confidence, and the ability to help others achieve their body goals. I don’t have a vice so when I’m stressed I’ll go to the gym to blow some steam off. Also, working out gives me time to think and not make any erratic decisions.
9. What is the key to having a healthy and balanced lifestyle?
The key is knowing when to turn it on and off. Sometimes, it can get overwhelming and you have to put things out of sight and out of mind. Having good people in your corner to talk to helps a lot. Also, try not to dawn on things for a long period of time, focus on the positive.
Also, the key is being self aware enough to know that your negative habits will put you through a loop of the same outcome over and over. Taking accountability of your flaws and shortcomings, changing them not only for you, but the betterment of people around you will give you that healthy balance.
10. Do you feel social media has changed you at all? Why or why not?
Yes, social media is somewhat an addiction. It takes up a lot of my time. Also, the pressure of keeping up with people and posting content is draining. I’m used to living a private life but when you’re in the entertainment business, you can’t have one foot in and one foot out. People want to see who you are.
11. Do you have any upcoming projects? If so, what industry are they in?
Currently, I am modeling and also looking forward to tapping into the acting industry or Hollywood! I don’t want to say too much but look out for me!
