Meet Kavita Channe, the Mompreneur Behind Channé Rosé

Kavita Channe is a mom that does it all. She is a TV personality, entrepreneur, and a philanthropist. Channe owns her own wine business, Channé Rosé, inspired by the French wines she tasted on her travels. Channe has a Youtube channel, 1stDownNDirty, where she covers sports events and interviews athletes. We caught up with her and asked her a few questions about how she does it all.

Let’s start at the very beginning of your journey. Where are you from? Where were you born, raised, and in what kind of background?

I’m from London, England. My family and I moved to Florida when I was five years old. Most of my extended family is still in England, but I’ve lived in Florida for most of my life.

How and why did you become an entrepreneur? Was it something you always intended for yourself?

Throughout my twenties, it was hard to get a 9 to 5 job. I felt very boxed in and always had a desire to do more. I took initiative and did multiple things. I started a luxury concierge marketing company in 2007 called The Procurer. In 2009, I started pursuing my broadcasting career. As a broadcaster, I feel like you are an entrepreneur. You’re working for yourself, trying to outreach for opportunities and it’s hard. You learn very quickly how to manage your time, market yourself, how to network and get your name out there. As far as the wine business, I was actually on a trip in France. I wasn’t a huge rose drinker at the time. In every restaurant I went to, they would give me a glass of rose. It was really good. When I came back to America and went to my favorite restaurants, I’d order a glass of rose and it was not the same. So I went back to France, met with over a hundred different winemakers, and I found my match. I launched Channé Rosé about a month after giving birth to my daughter.

What’s your productivity secret?

I’m a person that embraces everything including having a child and launching a business. The business launch was planned, the child was not. I had people telling me to rethink the wine business because I was doing TV hosting, MC’ing, working with nonprofits and pregnant. For me, it’s not about success. It’s about doing everything in life that I want to do and doing it to the best that I can while having fun with it. For me the productivity secret would be, if you have passion about something, go for it and you’ll figure it out. Don’t put limits on yourself. We’re amazing and we have amazing minds that can do so much. It’s not about dedicating your entire workweek to one project. It’s about doing as many things as you find passion for.

What do you do for encouragement or to be motivated?

I think the secret to getting ahead is to get started. Even when I’m feeling discouraged, I just do the next step. Once I complete that, I’m inspired to keep going. The more I believe, the more I achieve. It works in reverse as well, the more I achieve, the more I believe. Now with having children that are going to be watching me, I’ve got to set a great example. I want them to see everything I’m doing and I want to inspire them to do times ten.

Does anyone inspire you?

I love Jay Shetty. I watch his videos on Facebook at night before bed. He’s so inspiring.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for female entrepreneurs?

Do not fall into the trap of women versus men. Do the best you can and try to be the best. No matter if you have to compete against a man or a woman. Believe that you can be best and don’t sell yourself short.

What is most important to you and why at this point in your life?

Today, at the women’s meditation circle I did, we were asked to partner up and define ‘giving’ to our partner. I feel like for so long in our society, we are about having the top material possessions. I just feel like all that stuff does not provide happiness. If people really knew how good it feels to give back and to make someone else smile. To add value to your community and touch other people’s lives in a positive way. For me the most important thing is how can I give back. I’ve been blessed with many opportunities. I raise awareness for a lot of different organizations in my community and raise money through events. I volunteer a lot and I want my children to see that and be a part of that. I bring my daughter with me when I volunteer and that is what is really important to me.
