3 of Cups Debuts With The Shower Mask
3 of Cups Debuts With The Shower Mask
Beauty editor, entrepreneur, and beauty expert Lauren O’Connell is stepping into a new role with the launch of 3 of Cups, a spiritual beauty brand that brings together skincare science, ritual, and intentional self-care.
O’Connell, who serves as Beauty Editor at Cosmopolitan Middle East, launched 3 of Cups simultaneously in the United States and UAE. The brand makes its debut with The Shower Mask, a creamy in-shower face mask designed to soften, smooth, and hydrate the skin in just three to five minutes.
For O’Connell, however, the product represents much more than another addition to the skincare shelf. Its beginnings are deeply personal.
From Beauty Editor to Beauty Founder
O’Connell has spent more than six years covering the global beauty industry for Cosmopolitan Middle East, interviewing founders, examining emerging trends, testing products, and translating skincare innovation for consumers.
Her background extends beyond beauty journalism. Originally from Connecticut and now based in Dubai, O’Connell holds degrees in biomechanical engineering and nursing, giving her an unusual combination of scientific training, editorial experience, and firsthand knowledge of the beauty consumer.
The idea for 3 of Cups emerged during one of the most difficult periods of her life. In 2023, O’Connell was diagnosed with Stage II breast cancer. During treatment, she began looking for small moments of comfort and normalcy while recognizing that elaborate beauty routines were often unrealistic.
Traditional face masks were among the steps she found herself skipping because they required additional time. The shower, however, became a place where she could find a few moments of restoration.
That realization eventually became the foundation for The Shower Mask.
“I created the product I couldn’t find,” O’Connell says. “As a beauty editor, I had access to thousands of products, but I wanted something that felt comforting, effective, luxurious, and easy to use. The shower became a place of restoration for me, and I wanted to create a product that transformed those few minutes into a meaningful skincare ritual.”
Rethinking the Face Mask
Developed with a French laboratory through approximately 50 iterations, The Shower Mask was specifically formulated for use in the warm, steamy environment of a shower.
The creamy formula is applied to clean, damp skin and left on for three to five minutes before being rinsed away. Unlike a traditional mask that requires consumers to carve out additional time in their routines, The Shower Mask turns something they are already doing into an opportunity for skincare.
Its formula incorporates ingredients including polyglutamic acid, saccharide isomerate, sodium hyaluronate, squalane, shea butter, jojoba esters, hydrolyzed jojoba esters, gluconolactone (PHA), astaxanthin, and vitamin B12.
The product’s distinctive pink hue comes naturally from astaxanthin and vitamin B12. The fragrance-free, vegan, and cruelty-free formula is designed to deeply hydrate, support the skin barrier, improve texture, and leave skin feeling softer and smoother.
The concept reflects one of the central ideas behind 3 of Cups: women don’t necessarily need additional steps in their beauty routines. Instead, thoughtfully designed products can make better use of the moments already available to them.
Putting The Shower Mask to the Test
According to an independent two-week consumer study involving 70 participants, 100% reported no irritation or stinging during use, while 94% noticed visible improvements in the overall look and feel of their skin.
Additionally, 93% said their skin felt smoother, and 91% reported that their skin felt more moisturized.
Those results complement O’Connell’s vision of developing products that balance efficacy with an emotional and sensory approach to beauty.
The brand summarizes that philosophy with its tagline: “Beauty with a frequency. Skincare with a soul.”
The Meaning Behind 3 of Cups
The brand’s name draws inspiration from the Three of Cups tarot card, traditionally associated with celebration, friendship, abundance, healing, and women supporting women.
For O’Connell, those themes became especially meaningful during her own experience with cancer and recovery.
“3 of Cups represents everything I wanted this brand to stand for,” she says. “Connection. Celebration. Transformation. The belief that even during life’s most difficult times, beautiful experiences can still blossom.”
Rather than presenting skincare as another obligation or a way of becoming someone different, 3 of Cups approaches beauty as an opportunity to reconnect with yourself.
That distinction is central to the company’s larger vision: creating a modern beauty and wellness brand where scientific efficacy, emotional connection, innovation, and ritual can exist together.
A New Chapter for Lauren O’Connell
Launching 3 of Cups adds founder and CEO to an already multifaceted career for O’Connell. Alongside building the company, she continues her work as Beauty Editor at Cosmopolitan Middle East, reporting on beauty and wellness innovation and interviewing industry leaders.
Her work has also been featured by outlets including CNN, Cosmopolitan US, Grazia Middle East, Buro 247, Newsweek, Gulf News, Khaleej Times, and the Daily Mail. O’Connell also works as a keynote speaker and moderator, discussing subjects ranging from beauty innovation and entrepreneurship to branding and women’s health.
The Shower Mask is only the first chapter for 3 of Cups, with future expansion planned across skincare, beauty, and wellness.
For now, its debut delivers a simple proposition: self-care doesn’t always require finding more time. Sometimes, it can begin with transforming a few minutes already built into the day.
