The biggest night in culture: The 2023 BET Awards brought some of Hollywood’s biggest stars out. This year had special performances to celebrate hip-hop’s 50th birthday.
This year’s BET Awards celebrated hip-hop’s 50th birthday by bringing the biggest and brightest stars to perform. This year was like no other, not only because it was hip-hop’s 50th birthday, but also because the award ceremony had no host due to the writer’s strike. Lil Uzi Vert opened the night by performing his viral hit song “I Just Want to Rock”. The big surprise of the night was the reunion of Migos, Quavo, and Offset, in dedication to their late group member Takeoff. The electric performance was one of the highlights of the awards ceremony. Migos performed their world-renowned hit “Bad and Bougie”. Coco Jones brought sultry and sexy performing her number 1 hit “ICU” Ice Spice brought the Bronx to the award stage, reimagined as notable spots throughout the BX. Latto lit up the stage performing her smash hit “Acting Brand New” and won New Hip-Hop Artist. The BET Awards paid special tribute to hip-hop’s 50th by having almost every era of hip-hop take center stage. Some of the artists that took part in the tribute were Kid Capri, MC Lyte, D-Nice, Big Daddy Kane, Kid and Play, Trick Daddy, Trina, Uncle Luke, Warren G, Yo Yo, Tyga, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, Busta Rhymes, Redman, Erick Sermon, Keith Murray, TI, Master P, Kid and Play, Dougie Fresh, Soulja Boy and more. Some of the winners of the night for the 2023 BET Awards were Coco Jones, who won Best New Artist and also won the hearts of BET Award audiences. It was also a special night for one of the kings of hip-hop, Busta Rhymes, who was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award. Glorilla made it red hot with her new single “Lick or Sum”. Teyana Taylor won 2023 for Video Director of the Year. The best International Act was Burna Boy. Album of the Year (tie) was “Renaissance” by Beyonce and “SOS” by SZA.
