YESSIE And VF7 Collaborate to Create Girl Power Anthem “Griselda”
YESSIE, a rising urban-pop star from Guatemala, is making waves in the Latin music scene. Her music reflects stories that her listeners can relate to about emotion, passion, and triumph. She has begun to connect with the Puerto Rican market as well, with a collaboration with EIX on their song, “Matamos La Liga,” and now with VF7 on “Griselda.” YESSIE also worked recently on Columbian producer SOG’s latest album. The song, “Una Como Yo” features YESSIe and Puerto Rican artist DIA.
“Griselda” is an anthem about strength and power, moving forward from a relationship that no longer serves them. This song features lyrics that focus on confidence, self-fulfillment, and independence.
The music video, which was filmed in Medellín, further appeals to the urban-pop aesthetic that the artists imagined for the song. The video begins with the girls in a cage chained down to emphasize how they were held back by their relationships. After they escape the cage, they are shown dancing and partying with other women reflecting their power and joy after freeing themselves.
The outfit choices for the music video show their unapologetic style with bold and sexy pieces paired with eye-catching accessories. Their sneakers and trendy baggy pants play perfectly into the song’s vibe.
“’Griselda’ is about owning your power and recognizing your worth. Instead of getting sad, we choose to get bichota Griselda. The girl from Guatemala and the girl from PR come together to bring an anthem of empowerment.” – YESSIE
The title of the song is a reference to the infamous Colombian drug lord Griselda Blanco. Griselda was remembered as an ambitious and smart business woman who climbed the ladder of the drug trade underworld of Miami. She was believed to have been behind countless murders including the murders of all of her husbands. To many, her name represents a boss and a big-shot and reflects a sense of power and leadership.
