wolfacejoeyy Says “don’t be dishonest”
Charming the rap game with his striking personality and hybrid sound, wolfacejoeyy has what it takes to be a star. Today, he shares the SoHo-set music video from “don’t be dishonest,” his recently-released love-struck anthem. Over sensual production and silky background vocals, Joeyy wastes no time playing games and shows his girl why he’s the man of her dreams, driving her through the city in a blacked-out Cadillac SUV and spoiling her in a downtown Manhattan hotel room. By the end of the video, directed by Tycho, Joeyy wins her affections, and they dance and laugh in the dark city streets.
“don’t be dishonest” was officially released last month as part of Joeyy’s “cake” / “don’t be dishonest” double single, shortly after he premiered the track in a From the Block performance. “cake” has quickly become a fan-favorite, generating over 160K combined views across social platforms before its official release, earning attention from celebs like Rubi Rose and Kaliii on Instagram, and inspiring over 16.5K total creations on TikTok. The 21-year-old rapper currently averages more than 1 million on-demand streams per week across platforms.
“cake” / “don’t be dishonest” followed up “wya,” Joeyy’s high-energy January single (177k streams) and came hot on the heels of his inclusion on Complex’s list of Rappers to Watch in 2024. “Wya” and “don’t be dishonest”/”cake” arrive after a breakout 2023 for the young rapper, in which he partnered with producer Whereis22 (aka the actor Michael Rainey Jr., from POWER on Starz), on the acclaimed EP 22Joeyy. The album featured the single “weekend” ft. Cash Cobain & Chow Lee, acclaimed by Pitchfork, and additional guest spots from SoFaygo and B-Lovee. Joeyy discussed the project in an interview with BET, and a profile in HYPEBEAST that came out earlier this month.
After the success of 22Joeyy and a tour slot opening for Eem Triplin, and a headlining show last month at Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn, Joeyy enters 2024 with a head of steam. Stay tuned for much more music from Joeyy in the near future.
