Wilmette Prepare For Album With “No One Knew”
Chicago pop-punk band Wilmette continues to gear up for their debut full-length record with the release of their new single, “No One Knew.” The song serves as the second single off of their long-awaited album Hyperfocused. Formed in a basement in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois in the summer of 2018, Wilmette brings the classic angsty punk sound and strong musicianship alongside pop hooks and honest lyrics. As a five-piece, the band consists of Aaron Hailey (vocals), Peyton Day (vocals/bass), Griffin Guge (guitar), Brompton Jackson (guitar), and Aidan Hailey (drums). Their energetic debut LP Anxious Body was released in 2019.
“No One Knew” is a more emotional, slower-paced song than its predecessor single, “Hyperfocused.” However, it still combines the pop-punk and hardcore genres through its instrumentals.
Guitarist Griffin Guge says, “There was a lot of room to grow on the track, and we definitely got excited to experiment with a lot of cool guitar sounds. One of my favorites of which is in the bridge. We used a variety of unconventional guitar techniques as well as pedals to quite literally make it sound like the song is breaking and the building you’re in is coming down. I think it was very fitting for the part.”
The track is accompanied by a new music video directed by Alex Zarek. Going along with the lyrics, it tells the story of a couple that faces struggles mentally. While they clearly love and care for each other, their problems appear to be out of their grasp.
Vocalist Aaron Hailey says, “It’s about the guilt of not being able to help someone through a hard time, and the helpless feeling that comes with being there while they struggle.”
Wilmette’s 10-track LP Hyperfocused releases on August 4th, 2023, via Mutant League Records. It is produced by Seth Henderson (State Champs, Knuckle Puck) and is now available for pre-order.
