Williams: A Jayson Tatum Anthem?

Williams: A Jayson Tatum Anthem?

Platinum recording artist Russ has a song titled “Movin'” that I have enjoyed listening to since its release. The song is about blocking out the noise and to keep moving forward towards whatever it is that you are chasing. A lot of people can relate to this song as everyone puts their best foot forward towards their dreams everyday. For me, I can relate to this very much with my drive to become the person I want to be, but someone in the bigger spotlight who I feel can connect to this song is Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics.

There has been talk for years on if Jayson Tatum is “The Guy” in Boston, and Jaylen Brown winning Finals MVP last season really made those accusations a lot louder in the last year. On top of that, Tatum also didn’t get many minutes on the star-studded USA Olympic basketball team this past summer which brought even more attention to the five-time all-star. With this happening, Jayson Tatum has turned his gameplay up this season and has his Celtics in prime position for possibly another title run.

“My Mom used to drive a van so I’ma buy her Van Cleef

Always had ingredients for greatness in my pantry

I just bought a Ghost off seeing s**t that people can’t see

People hating on me didn’t matter in the grand scheme.”

Those specific lyrics really resemble the Jayson Tatum experience as media continues to underrate his ability to help his team on top of the fact that Tatum’s mother used to struggle when he was younger. Tatum always had the ingredients to be a great NBA player, he just needs to the right people backing him up in the media to put the correct narrative out there for the NBA champion and son of Deuce.

“I don’t count miles, dawg just the milestones,” was another line from “Movin'” that really cements the Tatum mentality which has stemmed from the Mamba mentality built by the late great Kobe Bryant.
