Walter The Producer Releases New Album
It seems like the more Walter The Producer achieves, the less he says. But if you are part of the LA-based / Boston-bred artist’s ever-growing fan base, you’re okay with that. After all, Walter The Producer’s music speaks for itself. At 21 years old, Walter The Producer, whose real name is Reid, began turning heads last year when he released his debut project, No Substance Mixtape, which featured the buzzy hit singles “Velma” and “Since September.” Now, Walter The Producer has released his new, full-length album, PLEASE HELP ME I’M SCARED, via SLUMBO LABSwhich features the previously released singles, “I’M SCARED,” “PAMPLEMOUSSE,” and “NOW WE’RE GETTING THERE.” In true Walter The Producer fashion, he wrote and produced much of the album at his grandmother’s house in Rhode Island. PLEASE HELP ME I’M SCARED is available on all DSPs now. “This album is a bunch of songs I made over a period of time during which I was feeling really confused,” he shares. “A lot of good things were happening in my life with people discovering my music and what not, but I was super depressed and anxious. That was confusing, and kind of scary because I kept asking myself: If my dreams are coming true, why am I not happy? In many ways, the album is like a sequel to No Substance Mixtape.”PLEASE HELP ME I’M SCARED also features the recently released track, “WALLBOY,” which Walter The Producer recently discussed with Zane Lowe, Apple Music’s global creative director and host of “The Zane Lowe Show.”
“I wrote ‘WALLBOY’ with Ryan Raines after making a bunch of upbeat songs,” he says. “I really wanted to switch things up. So, I went to Ryan, and we started making the beat. Everything came pretty fast after that. Ultimately, ‘WALLBOY’ is a song about how I tend to put a wall between myself and others, so I don’t get hurt.”
Born and raised on the south shore of Massachusetts, Walter The Producer started playing guitar and piano at 10 years old and was making his own beats by the time he was 13. He produces, mixes, and masters all his own music. He is scrupulous and meticulous, bold, and inventive, and bursting with creativity. Drawing inspiration from artists like Tame Impala, Steve Lacy, and Childish Gambino, Walter The Producer seamlessly blends elements of alt-indie and disco pop. He recently performed at KCRW’s School Night and is set to hit the stage at Lollapalooza later this summer. Check out our previous coverage on Walter The Producer and more here.
