GirlzLuhDev: Chilli Mon$taa Album Review

On October 28th, 2022, rising Inland Empire rapper, GirlzLuhDev, released his new record Chilli Mon$taa via Capitol Records. This project is the perfect showcase for the young, charismatic, skyrocketing artist. Additionally, this project is versatile, unique, and was accompanied by a slew of visualizers.

GirlzLuhDev’s Background

GirlzLuhDev is an ex-basketball star turned successful rapper/singer. Also, being 19-years-old and from Inland Empire, California, it would be impossible for his music not to have West Coast Hip-Hop influence. Also, there is bounce that is reminiscent of Dr. Dre and Cypress Hill throughout GirlzLuhDev’s catalogue.

“Tooka” is by far his most successful song with 18 million streams on Spotify. The song is backed by a simple beat, pretty sounding keys, and sexual lyrics catered toward a female. Additionally, this hit launched him to the national stage and landed him a major record label deal with Capitol Records.

Chilli Mon$taa

Girls are a major theme in Chilli Mon$taa. This album has an other earthly vibe and a catchy bounce, throughout. The feel-good tone to the project’s lyrical themes and sonics are enlightening and can put a pep in anyone’s step.

The first track, “Half Spanish”, has the third most streams on the album on Spotify with over 8,000 listens. Also, this song depicts the rapper talking to a girl who believes he’s Spanish because of the way he talks. It’s a solid, bouncy track that accurately exhibits what the rest of the album sounds like.

The album’s sixth track, “Debby Ryan”, is a love story between GirlzLuhDev and a female. The accompanying visual on YouTube depicts this story in a colorful, animated fashion.

“Dirty Secrets” has sexual lyrical content and a guitar backed beat with a drum pattern that is consistent through the album’s entirety. “Block Hot” is the album’s third track, is somber, and is about gang violence. Finally, these two themes, girls and gang violence, are central in GirlzLuhDev’s music.
