Tyga Is ‘$TARFACE’
Global multi-platinum artist, Tyga, today unveils the debut album from $TARFACE, the entirely original artist created to explore a distinct world of music, visuals and storytelling inspired by the early 1980s. Available now, the 10-track project builds on the universe first introduced with lead single, “GAVE U RACKS,” bringing the full vision of $TARFACE to life through a rich blend of pop, R&B, synth-wave, dance, funk, and soul. Crafted to feel as though it emerged from the golden era of the decade, the album represents one of Tyga’s most ambitious and creative projects to date. The release is also accompanied by the official music video for “FREEZING,” further expanding the project’s cinematic world. The album opens with “SPINNING,” an upbeat introduction to the $TARFACE world, bringing together bright synths, pop influences and the vibrant energy of early-1980s production. The track sets the tone for the project’s nostalgic yet fresh sound. Throughout the album, songs like “TIME IS CURRENCY” tap into the influence of classic pop and R&B, with Michael Jackson-inspired grooves, layered vocals and rhythmic production that capture the feeling of the era. On the more emotional side, “DIE 4 U” and “LASTS FOREVER” slow things down with a more intimate approach, focusing on heartfelt melodies, romantic themes and the cinematic feeling that runs throughout the project. Together, the tracks reveal the breadth of the $tarface world, balancing the glamour and optimism of early-’80s pop with moments of intimacy, romance and emotional vulnerability.
Speaking about the debut album Tyga said: “$TARFACE gave me the freedom to make the music I’ve always loved. I wanted every song and every visual to feel like it came straight out of the early ‘80’s, where the music, the fashion and the storytelling all carried a sense of soul and real depth. This album is about finally bringing this vision to life.” The visual identity of $TARFACE is rooted in the unmistakable style of the early 1980s, incorporating white suits, luxury automobiles, neon-lit environments, cinematic lighting and the larger-than-life energy of the era’s pop culture. Across the project, music and visuals work together to build the world of $TARFACE – one where fashion, film and music exist as a single creative universe. The concept behind $TARFACE began while Tyga was developing his forthcoming film, “Baby, You’re a Star.” The creative process led him to further explore the earlier part of the decade, the era of iconic releases from artists including Michael Jackson, Prince, Madonna and Rick James. That creative exploration ultimately led to the creation of a completely separate artist built around the music, fashion and storytelling of the era.
With the release of the debut $TARFACE album, Tyga completes the first chapter of an ambitious new artistic world that bridges music, visual storytelling and character development. While $TARFACE continues to evolve, Tyga is also preparing his forthcoming rap album and an Afrobeats-inspired project, further showcasing one of the most creatively expansive periods of his career.
