The Hozier Journey From Ireland To Stardom
Andrew Hozier-Byrne (more known as simply Hozier) is an Irish singer-songwriter who has produced hits that have reached the top of the music charts. You may know his most famous song “Take Me To Church,” which hit number two on the Billboard Top 100 in December of 2014. That was the song that started it all for the musician.
Hozier was born in County Wicklow, Ireland on March 17th, 1990. He was raised a Quaker, which is a Christian group that emphasizes the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through the years, the young musician began to teach himself guitar as well as participating in his school’s choir. Right after high school, Hozier decided to study music education at Trinity College in Dublin, Ireland. You could just tell that music was in his blood from such a young age.
Things began to look in Hozier’s direction in terms of recognition when he decided to record a demo of “Take Me To Church” in his parents’ attic. The demo eventually caught the attention of indie label Rubywords, who he inevitably signed with. It was the first step towards his stardom. Rubywords made an executive decision in pairing him with producer Rob Kirwan. This pairing helped push Hozier’s first single to new heights before it was even released. They both mastered the song and ended up making a music video that went viral as it criticized homophobia in Russia.
That was just the beginning for Hozier. His music explores many themes such as identity, modernity and religion. The Irish artist has taken on issues of hate, domestic violence, and abuse and brought them to light in his music. Hozier’s music transcends just words behind a beat. He sings about real-world issues that people have gone through to connect with his listeners.
Hozier recently dropped his third album titled Unreal Unearth: Unending. It has 26 songs and was released on December 6th. This comes after his song “Too Sweet” hit number one on the Billboard Top 100 charts in April of 2024.
