The New Aespa Era

Aespa is showing people in 2024 that they are a force to be rekoned with. They have the dynamics to go the distance and top the charts.

Drawing inspiration from the current house music epidemic with artists like Charli XCX, the first and title track Whiplash encourages Aespa fans to get up and dance. Beat drops and a techno vibe make it a hype intro to an overall energetic album.

Regardless of the difference in tone from track to track, the baddie attitude is present throughout the album. Track 2, Kill It, and Track 4, Pink Hoodie, have an underlying hip-hop essence that makes you want to bust a move. The girls show off their rapping abilities in these tracks, paired with a harder beat, and catchy chorus. The upbeat, dancy feel doesn’t disappear; it just simply changes styles.

In Track 3, Flights, Not Feelings, and Track 5, Flowers we see a softer side. There are more emotional lyrics because Aespa wants you to know baddies have feelings too. Aespa follows many female artists in the industry who are showing the duality of womanhood through their music. They demonstrate a resilient, badass “party girl” side, but also an intellectual, emotional, and loving side. Not only with lyricism but with their beats and melodies as well.

Last but certainly not least comes the last track, track 6, “Just Another Girl“. This track has an early 2000s pop sound to it, like the ending of a movie, which feels appropriate considering the diva whiplash you get from this album. Fans have been waiting for their favorite K-pop girl group to release new music since May, and now the wait is over. So, is 2024 the year of Aespa? Decide for yourself and stream now!
