SZA’s Kill Bill Featuring Doja Cat.

SZA’s hit song Kill Bill was originally released back in December of 2022. Now in 2023, SZA and Doja Cat have released a remix of Kill Bill.

Surprisingly, the pair teased the song’s release on Twitter only hours before it was available for listen. With Doja Cat saying “Sis…I did something bad”. and SZA replying “Jesus.. What is it”.

This is not the first time the two have collabed. Notably, SZA and Doja Cat previously came together on Kiss Me More off of Doja’s Planet Her album back in 2021. Previously, the duo won a Grammy for best pop duo/group performance for their efforts, along with more nominations for best song of the year.

The remix released April 14, is a rework of the intro to the song, and now features Doja Cat. No longer does SZA open by singing about about inner turmoil and contentions. Now, Doja walks us through a scene where she breaks into her ex-boyfriend’s house and sees him kissing someone else. Doja sings “Cause she was seein’ red, and all I saw was you. It happened in a flash when she charged me”.

Doja kills the “other woman”, and says “But that shot wasn’t for her” Then in exciting fashion both SZA and Doja Cat come together on the Chorus “I might Kill my ex / not the best idea / His new girlfriend’s next / how’d I get here?”

A Long Time Coming

Through the remix, the song is transformed and the tongue in cheek murder storyline is brought to the forefront. Certainly Doja is a natural fit on the track, which actually speaks to the fact that she was originally intended to feature on the album.

Ahead of the album’s release, there was miscommunication between the two artists management. Alongside that, Doja required surgery on her vocal cords due to damage sustained during her lengthy touring process alongside making new music.

Finally, we see the two artists coming back together and bringing the best out of each other as well. For fans of either artist, the new remix is a great example of their interplay. It is also hopefully an indicator of future collabs.
