Motivational Hip Hop Poetry

Ric Wilson, a young Southside Chicago activist, and artist is paving the way for the collaboration of activism and music. He is a product of “Young Chicago Authors”, the same creative writing program that birthed Chance The Rapper, Vic Mensa, and Jamila Woods. Wilson blends funk, R&B, and rap into a genre-less blend infused with an intelligent twist. After releasing his first single, “Soul Bounce”, he began to open for big-name artists such as Azealia Banks, The Roots, and Lil Yachty to name a few. Wilson is making a name for himself, and even more, is an inspiration for all artists who believe in their art, their voice, and themselves. His songs hold messages that are easy to get behind and are excited by his spellbinding presence and dynamic delivery. Wilson creates music that is uplifting, inspiring, and has a fresh flow; the kind of music that is catchy yet soaring and encourages us to always believe.

“They Call Me Disco”

Despite the pandemic, 2020 has been Ric Wilson’s most defining year yet. He teamed up with Terrace Martin to create “They Call Me Disco”, a 6 song EP. The EP covers everything from prejudice to one’s own individual search for meaning and purpose. It’s a display of groovy disco, activism, and soul that stimulates both the body and the mind. The music is playful yet poignant, and Wilson chooses to bask in the beauty of the struggles he speaks on; dancing through his fights while remaining aware of his emotions. The EP finds a happy medium between party-ready tracks and songs that anticipate reflection. Songs on the EP also feature other Chicago-based artists like Corbin Dallas, Malaya, Kiela Adira, and BJ The Chicago Kid. If you like Kendrick Lamar, Tyler The Creator, or J. Cole, give Ric Wilson a listen.
