Sombr: A Journey Through Emotion And Indie Sound
Shane Boose, known professionally as Sombr, is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter from New York City. His music is full of emotion, soul, and genuine talent. Sombr offers a unique sound with various influences from the 1975, Phoebe Bridgers, and Radiohead. The indie rock artist takes inspiration from films, books, and real-life experiences to create his music.
The rising star has released many notable songs including, “would’ve been you,” “Caroline,” and “Willow.” Additionally, He released his first album in another life, in 2023. His vulnerable vocal style and heart-wrenching ballads have caught the attention of a large audience on TikTok.
Sombr writes melancholic songs that leave their listeners with indescribable feelings and unnamable emotions. With guitar and piano instrumentation alongside these moving lyrics, Sombr creates music unlike any other.
He hopes to evoke the same special feeling that he felt when listening to tracks like, “For Emma, Forever Ago” by Bon Iver and “Blonde” by Frank Ocean.
He is currently on tour for the spring and summer of 2025. The North American leg, beginning on March 18th in Dallas, Texas, with fellow musician Daniel Seavey, has gained attention on social media in just a few days. The European leg, with Nessa Barrett, will travel from Dublin to London, and to Paris throughout May and June.
On tour, Sombr creates immersive and encapsulating environments, connecting his fans with himself and the music. As a natural-born musician, the confidence radiates from him. His education at LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts as a vocal major prepared him for the job as a performer.

His career is taking off with the immediate success of his most recent releases. On December 26, 2024, Sombr released a single, “back to friends,” which has been used in over 176,000 TikToks and received over 36 million streams on Spotify. On March 21, Sombr released another highly anticipated single, “undressed.” Undressed follows the same unique and nostalgic indie pop production style. This song tells the story of moving on from a breakup but being held back by the inability to be comfortable and intimate with anyone else. The chorus circulating on TikTok says, “I don’t wanna get undressed for a new person all over again/I don’t wanna kiss someone else’s neck and have to pretend it’s yours instead.”
The music that Sombr creates is thoughtful and internally stirring. He wants to provide his listeners with the special feeling that inspired him to begin making music in the first place. He wants to give people a listening experience they can relate to and feel seen during.
