Shoreline Mafia Share “Wood Wire Buffs”
OHGEESY and Fenix Flexin of Shoreline Mafia are students of the game, inhaling West Coast music of the past and present to inform their purely L.A. sound. SoCal’s favorite rap group puts a new spin on classic sounds with BIDNESS IS BOOMIN, their next EP, arriving May 1st via Atlantic. Spanning 8 tracks, the EP takes cues from 80s R&B, Electro-Funk, and Latin Freestyle, with lyrical and musical references to songs from that era and samples from beloved hits by artists like Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam and Debbie Deb. The ping-ponging patter of GEESY and Fenix fits the sound perfectly, as they deliver party anthem after party anthem with memorably hedonistic bars.
The EP is home to Shoreline’s hit single “ROCKIN,” a speaker-knocking banger that samples Debbie Deb’s 1986 classic “Funky Little Beat.” “ROCKIN” hit big on urban radio, reaching the national Top 15, generated over 7 million YouTube views, and more than 33 million Spotify streams. Late last month, Shoreline dropped another single, “WE LIKE TO PARTY,” a bass-boosted banger built around a quote of Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick’s “La Di Da Di” (also made famous by Snoop Dogg).
Along with the announcement of the EP, Shoreline shares “WOOD WIRE BUFFS,” a new single and music video. Getting its title from the duo’s favorite bit of luxury eyewear, the song uses a breezy 80s R&B sample to provide a launching pad for Fenix and GEESY to get fast-paced flows off. The two rappers trade X-rated bars to prove that they’re not like regular guys. In the video, GEESY and Fenix count cash and collect Cartiers as they party in a warehouse with some of their city’s baddest babes.
“WOOD WIRE BUFFS” arrives at an exciting time for Shoreline Mafia, as they continue a run that started with last year’s Back In Bidness album. The duo collaborated with hitmaking DJ Disco Lines for new single “Quickest Lines,” and a pack of remixes of their Platinum-selling hits “Nun Major,” “Musty,” and “Bands.” OHGEESY recently finished a spring tour, playing shows across the Southwest and California, and last weekend, making a guest appearance during BIA‘s set at Coachella. Fenix has also been active, earlier this month making a guest spot on the unexpected rap debut by former child star Amanda Bynes. Earlier this month, Shoreline earned two more Gold certifications from the RIAA, for “HOLLYWOOD,” their recent collaboration with YG, and “Both Sides,” their 2019 team-up with Shordie Shordie.
Shoreline celebrated Back In Bidness, their second album and first since 2020’s Gold-selling Mafia Bidness, with the “Back In Bidness Tour,” a nationwide tour culminating in an epic, sold-out show at Los Angeles’s Kia Forum. In front of a crowd of 12,000, the duo led the crowd through a litany of their local and national hits, including “Musty,” “Nun Major,” “Gangstas & Sippas,” “Trap House,” and “Bands,” before bringing out a litany of special guests like YG, Big Sean, Coi Leray, Ty Dolla $ign, and many more. Shoreline plans to continue their live domination on Saturday May 2nd, playing a “Shoreline & Friends” show in Ontario, CA, and later this year, joining $uicideboy$ on their blockbuster “Grey Day” tour.
Re-assuming their place atop the L.A. street rap hierarchy, Shoreline Mafia is continuing a new era of success. Stay tuned for much more from OHGEESY and Fenix Flexin in the near future.
