RIAA Awards Rae Sremmurd for 2016 Hit, Black Beatles

Popular Hip-Hop duo, Rae Sremmurd, earns a diamond certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) signifying over 10 million units sold in the United States for 2016 hit, Black Beatles

Black Beatles, appearing on Rae Sremmurd’s second studio album, SremmLife 2, produced by Eardrum Records/Interscope Records, was a viral sensation during its time. The hit, featuring Gucci Mane, received many notable accolades after its release. 

Black Beatles topped the Billboard Hot 100 for seven consecutive weeks and started a viral trend, the #MannequinChallenge, where participants would freeze in place like mannequins while the song played in the background. This marked the song to be an influential internet sensation, entitled to praise from the highest honors of music. 

The duo, Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, are two brothers born in Mississippi. Their undeniable talent and catchy lyricism garnered attention from all over the world, allowing them to create hit after hit.

Apart from their diamond certification, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has certified seven of their hits. This includes “No Type” (7x Platinum), “Come Get Her” (5x Platinum), “This Could be Us” (4x Platinum), “Throw Sum Mo” (3x Platinum), “No Flex Zone” (3x Platinum), “My X” (Gold), and “Up Like Trump” (Gold).

Rae Sremmurd’s first two projects, SremmLife and SremmLife 2, released in 2015 and 2016 were also each certified as Platinum. The third project SR3MM, released in 2018, gave each member the opportunity to work solo. Featuring 3x platinum-selling singles Powerglide and Guatemala, fans were able to play with their versatile music skills. This project also featured appearances from musicians Juicy J, Travis Scott, Future, Pharrell, The Weeknd and many more. 

Sremmurd’s fourth and most recent studio album, SREMM 4 LIFE, was produced in 2023 and emerged on the Billboard 200 chart at number eleven. SREMM 4 LIFE also appeared on Rolling Stone’s 100 Best Albums of 2023, as number ninety-five.
