Peter Cat Recording Co. Drop New Song

Peter Cat Recording Co. Drop New Song

The ever-evolving, genre-bending, India-based project Peter Cat Recording Co. has a new album, BETA, on the way and today, they are back with their next single, “Suddenly,” a beautifully consoling ode to vocalist Suryakant’s mother that acts as a goodbye letter to his late father. His mother also stars in the incredibly touching video where she hears the song for the very first time. Directed by Suryakant, the band plays the song on a boat as they slowly travel down a river in Goa, eventually picking up Suryakant’s mother to bring her along for the ride, a sweet and sentimental homage to both of his parents. The band shares, Suddenly, “…recorded in a furniture showroom under the midnight rain in Goa. Remember that life is a river.” The song follows the previously released single “People Never Change” and an album trailer featuring a herd of elephants devouring an edible album announcement arrangement.

As the name suggests, Peter Cat Recording Co. is less a band and more of a self-sufficient factory of music and art. With 3 potent songwriters in Suryakant, Dhruv & Kartik, the group is building a legacy informed and echoing the spirit of groups like The Velvet Underground and The Beatles. The next chapter of this entity began with the announcement of their new album, BETA, which arrives August 9th on Muddy Water. BETA serves as a temporal snapshot, as all PCRC albums do, capturing the members’ personal evolution since their last offering, a painting of the living and the lived. With their third installment, the group’s familial landscape expanded through marriage and childbirth. Produced by Suryakant Sawhney, Kartik Pillai, Dhruv Bhola, and Peter Cat Recording Co., BETA was one of five album titles that could have been. They wrote down all five, put them in a hat, and let the drummer Karan Singh’s 6-month-old son reach in and pick. BETA emerged, an endearing word for “child” in Hindi. Peter Cat Recording Co.’s music mutates from album to album, with BETA they are refining their unique vision of 21st century pop music.

Tickets for the group’s headline dates are on sale now. Part of a massive 77-date tour, with a mix of Khruangbin dates throughout the year, their own headline shows will begin August 23rd in Boise, ID, hitting Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and more before returning overseas for many more dates, capped off with a six-date Indian tour concluding December 28th in Kolkata.

PCRC is Suryakant Sawhney on vocals and guitars, Karan Singh on drums, Dhruv Bhola on bass and samples, Rohit Gupta on keys, horns and woodwind, and Kartik Sundareshan on guitars, horns and woodwind.
