Opium’s HXG Release New Track “Versus”
Today, Opium duo HXG share their new single “Versus,” a track that immediately makes you want to rage. With an infectious energy that pulls you in from the first beat, “Versus” opens with a barrage of heavy drums, pounding 808s, and a relentless trap beat before erupting into a frenetic exchange between Meechie and Beno. “Pick a side and stay there” makes the message clear, touching on loyalty, while slick ad-libs, flexes on where they are now, and references to their come up give the track its hypnotic edge.
It’s been a busy summer for the guys, who have spent much of it on the road, delivering explosive sets at festivals including Rolling Loud Orlando, Beach, Please!, Clout Festival, and Splash! Festival. The duo also recently sold out a show in London, continuing to build momentum overseas. Up next, HXG will take the stage at ComplexCon in Los Angeles on Saturday, October 3, as part of the festival’s 10-year anniversary celebration. Tickets are available for purchase HERE.
In 2025, the Atlanta natives shared their highly anticipated project Homixide Lifestyle 2, the follow-up to their 2022 debut mixtape. The project sees Meechie and Beno return to the menacing rage-rap sound that first put them on the map, pushing it further across 25 tracks while showcasing their growth as artists. The album includes standout collaborations with fellow Opium labelmates Ken Carson on “PB&J” and Destroy Lonely on “Shopping Bags,” alongside additional appearances from Homixide Mali and R5 Homixide. Production comes from a stacked lineup that includes Pi’erre Bourne, who produced both the high-octane anthem “Free Agents,” which has amassed more than 1 million views, and “VICE CITY,” as well as contributions from Wakeup F1LTHY, Maaly Raw, TLY Jacob, Section 8, ATL Jacob, DJ Moon, and others across the project. Another highlight is the fiery single “5G,” which flips Smashing Pumpkins’ 1993 classic “Cherub Rock” into a distorted rush of searing guitars, escalating tension, and a crushing drop delivered with unrelenting intensity. Homixide Lifestyle 2 showcases a more refined and fully realized version of the duo’s signature sound.
For Meechie and Beno!, music isn’t just a career, it’s a way to make a lasting impact. With new music on the way, HXG are only getting started. As The FADER says, “It’s clear their rise is unstoppable and will be very loud.”
