NSQK Makes His Colors Debut With “Tuffluv”

Groundbreaking Mexican artist and producer Nsqk steps into the COLORS studio in New York for the first time to premiere “tuffluv,” the second single from MOSCA, his third LP and the most anticipated album of the year. Watch Nsqk’s COLORS debut

Nsqk - tuffluv | A COLORS SHOW

Written and produced by Nsqk, “tuffluv” leans on electronic and industrial beats to paint a relationship held together by nothing but material luxury. Dark and defiant, the track finds Nsqk flipping the power dynamic: “mueve la cadera en círculos, vamos a quitarte el cinturón, ya no hay que cuidar los vínculos, si solo quieres artículos” (“move your hips in circles, let’s get that belt off, no need to nurture what we have if all you want is things”).

Halfway through, a faceless female voice cuts in, breaking through the song’s coldness and injecting vulnerability. What follows is a string of confessions: the narrator owns up to the volatility and resentment in the relationship while laying out his efforts to give her almost everything she wants.

The single follows “Hombre de Bien,” the first taste of MOSCA: a powerful, introspective alternative track that digs into its protagonist’s psyche through internal dialogues that reveal his state of mind and eventual emotional death. Listen to “Hombre de Bien” here.

Arriving two years after the ATP era, MOSCA cements the Monterrey-born singer, songwriter and producer as the most important and influential artist in Mexico today.

Nsqk’s drawing power is on full display in his pop-ups. Over the years, these events have sparked a frenzy not only in Mexico City but in cities across the country, drawing thousands of fans.

Recently, Nsqk drew around a thousand fans in less than an hour at ASTRO, a Mexico City club, where he brought Mexico’s beloved pacas, bulk secondhand-clothing sales, into the MOSCA universe. The event featured limited-edition merch priced at 20 Mexican pesos (about US$1.16).

In August, Nsqk offered a first look into MOSCA through a mobile game on his website, nsqk.com, that kept fans hooked for hours as they caught flies in an open field in the middle of the night. On the same site, Nsqk also launched his own TV channel, Canal600, where he shares project updates with his followers.

In late August, the singer-songwriter and producer gathered fans at three spots across Mexico City to sell his lotería-style game “MOSCAS,” which already hinted at the album’s title.

Last weekend, Nsqk performed at the Destino Dos Equis festival on the Explanada Foro Boca in Veracruz, where he shared the stage with El Malilla. Fans of the Monterrey-native artist will get a preview of his upcoming album at his second Destino Dos Equis date: October3 at Hacienda El Triunfo in Mérida. Tickets are on sale now at eticket.mx.

Through albums like ROY and ATP, Nsqk has built a devoted fan base that helped him become the first solo artist from Monterrey to sell out two consecutive nights at Mexico City’s legendary Palacio de los Deportes, with 42,000 fans in total. The feat reaffirms him as the most innovative and culturally relevant artist of his generation. Colors shows us another classic performance with Nsqk.
