“Blur the Lines” is the lead single and introduction to the musical collaboration between Bay Area-based singer/songwriter Joyo Velarde (Quannum Projects, Lyrics Born) and producer Nick Andre (Blackalicious, Hanni El Khatib, Her Space Holiday, Zion I).
Setting the tone for their debut EP “Fever Dream”, Andre’s synth-bass and Rhodes-driven production on this track provide a hypnotic backdrop to showcase Velarde’s lush vocals. The bass heavy, electronic R&B vibes are perfect for late nights & early mornings, city drives and last songs of the night.
The “Fever Dream EP” is the first collaborative EP between producer Nick Andre and vocalist Joyo Velarde, Fans of legendary Bay Area label Quannum Projects will certainly recognize both names from their extensive collaborations on the production and vocal side of the label respectively. First introduced by Gift of Gab, Andre and Velarde began working in the studio on the skeleton of the EP together, finishing it remotely during the COVID-19 lockdown. The result is a step outside the Bay Area Hip-Hop lane, where bass heavy electronic and trap influenced production meets Joyo’s heartfelt & deep vocals, resulting in a 4 track future R&B excursion that lyrically explores themes of love, devotion, self care and more. Joy and Nick would like to dedicate this album to the memory of their dear friend Timothy Parker, Without him this record would have never existed. This new single is starting to take the Jazz world by storm and you can just feel the soulfulness in the song. We cannot wait to see more from Joyo Velarde and also from Nick Andre as they will definitely be the future of music.
