Metallica Continue Their Seismic ‘M72 World Tour’
Metallica began their ‘M72 World Tour’ in Amsterdam before breaking for a brief recess following performances in Mexico City in September 2024. For the 2025 edition of their ‘M72 World Tour,’ Metallica resumed activity with a show in Syracuse, NY. Over 47,500 fans attended the concert at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse, according to heavy metal site Blabbermouth. This tracks with Metallica’s crowd-pulling abilities, where more than 3 million fans have attended their M72 World Tour so far.
Metallica ‘M72 World Tour’ At Virginia Tech:
During their ‘No Repeat Weekend’ performances in Toronto and Nashville, Metallica played “two different sets each night,” much to their fans’ delight. May 7 marked a red-letter night for the band as they kicked off with the iconic track “Enter Sandman” at Virginia Tech’s Lane Stadium. “Enter Sandman” holds a special place in Virginia Tech’s ethos as “Hokies” begin each game playing the song.
A crowd of 65,000 screamed joyfully inside the Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, VA as Metallica played their set. Notably, per local reports, a seismograph reading from the night showed a localized, seismic impact as Metallica performed “Enter Sandman.” Markedly, the classic from 1991 begins with Metallica’s archetypal guitar intro as Lars Ulrich’s drums add onto the polyphonic texture. The song deals with themes of dreams, charlatans, loss of innocence, and even religiosity. Its widespread recognition, however, is in part alluded to James Hetfield’s smoky voice suffused with an impeccable delivery. “Exit light/Enter night/Take my hand/We’re off to never-never land,” the song repeatedly quells, before its takeoff.
According to the website “Setlist,” Metallica performed other well-known tracks such as “Nothing Else Matters”, “Sad But True”, “Master of Puppets”, “The Day That Never Comes”, “For Whom the Bell Tolls.” Metallica continue the ‘M72 World Tour’ while partnering with “support” from other heavy metal bands such as Pantera, Suicidal Tendencies, Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills.
