Lorde Announces New Album and World Tour
Pop Artist Lorde has been busy the past few weeks as she reclaims her place in the spotlight. The singer-songwriter from New Zealand announced a new album, Virgin, her first in four years. She released a single from the album “What Was That” on April 24th, and fans love it.
The new album comes after her performance at Coachella with Charli XCX, when she appeared on stage for a surprise appearance during their song “Girl, so confusing.” Charli XCX took the world by storm with her album Brat, declaring 2024 a “Brat Summer.” At this performance, though, the British singer spotlighted her friend, declaring 2025 as “Lorde Summer.”
“What Was That” was teased on social media by the artist beginning April 9th and has since been used in over 57,000 TikTok videos. The song matches the style Lorde is known for, with a similar sound to her Melodrama album she released in 2017. With her unique airy vocals and electropop sound, her music is immediately recognizable.
April 22nd, Lorde invited fans to come to Washington Square Park for a listening party at 7 p.m. After such a large crowd appeared, the local police ordered the singer to disperse them. Two days after this event, the song and accompanying video were released. The music video shows Lorde walking and riding a bike through the streets and subways of New York City, leading to a crowd of fans in Washington Square Park.
Following the announcement, Lorde’s Instagram bio reads “THE THEMES ARE ALWAYS THE SAME- A RETURN TO INNOCENCE- THE MYSTERIES OF THE BLOOD- AN ITCH FOR TRANSCENDENTAL.”
The 2025 Ultrasound World Tour will travel all over the U.S, beginning September 17th in Austin, Texas, and ending in Seattle, Washington, on October 22nd before traveling across the ocean for the European leg of the tour. The tour will bring artists such as Blood Orange, The Japanese House, and many more. Tickets go on sale May 16th with a presale date of May 14th.
