Leah Sinclair Announces Debut EP, Shares Single “Aries Venus”
New York based singer-songwriter Leah Sinclair announces her debut EP (due out August 21) with the release of lead single “Aries Venus.” The title of the single takes its name from her own astrological sign: Venus in Aries, which is said to govern how a person approaches love. Aries Venuses are known for their directness and love of “the chase.” That theme sits at the heart of the song, which explores the instinct to run toward or away from someone, whether out of fear or a genuine pull toward pursuit itself. The track was born out of a failed situationship, when Sinclair began reflecting on how closely her own patterns mirrored her Venus sign. When she doesn’t feel heard, or senses early on that something won’t work, she retreats – a form of self-preservation that, she admits, might also carry a quiet thrill in the chase itself. Sonically, “Aries Venus” mirrors that tension. The chorus is built to feel consuming, layering a driving beat with arpeggiated strings, chopped vocals, and breathy whispers that evoke the physical sensation of running, or the sense of being swept into motion against one’s own better judgment. Underneath that urgency runs a current of melancholy, carried by glassy mallet plucks in a minor key, dark cello lines in the verses, and deep ambient textures.
Sinclair wrote “Aries Venus” in a single night on her omnichord, in her bedroom, shortly after deciding to end a relationship in April. The track was produced and mixed by her friend and fellow NYC based artist, Tarune.
