Larry June Releases New Album ‘Doing It For Me’
The 33 year-old American rapper, Larry June, released his new album Doing It For Me on August 9, which features 15 creative and personal tracks. While this is the artist’s 11th solo album, he feels that besides the added production, the vibe is still similar to that of his previous albums, stating, “I talk about the same stuff, just making it better quality, adding better stitching here and there, and touches I didn’t care to add in previous projects. But inspiration-wise and lyrically, it’s the same.”
Tracks like “Meet Me In Napa,” “Breakfast In Gold Coast,” and “Stinson Beach” have a melodic tune that clashes perfectly with a traditional rap beat, while other tracks like “Like a Mack,” “Dreams,” and “Three Piece” have a fierce and fast-paced tune that will leave you begging for more. Unlike his past albums, Doing It For Me, does not feature any other artists, really highlighting June’s talent and journey of self-expression. June’s 2023 album, The Night Shift, featured popular artists such as Cardo, 2 Chainz, DeJ Loaf, Blxst, and The Alchemist, amongst many others. June stated, “I did a lot of collaborating on projects before, and everything was smooth, but I wanted to do this 100% my way.” He continues, “I wanted it to be something I’d want to play when I’m in the whip, something that’s made for me to vibe to. And if people f–k with it, that’s even better.”
Born and raised in San Francisco, California, Larry June has been sharing his musical talent with the world since 2006, when he was uploading freestyle raps on MySpace. Since then he has released 11 albums, has been involved in over 20 very successful and powerful collaborations, and has had several awards nominations. More recently, June has performed at popular music festivals such as Rolling Loud and Gazebo Festival, and as stated by The Source, “June’s ‘Larry’s Market Run Tour’ sold nearly 100,000 rickets, demonstrating his growing influence and dedicated fan base.” His success and popularity are undeniable, and we can only begin to imagine what he has in store for us next.
