Killer Mike and The Mighty Midnight Revival Releases New Project
Serving as an epilogue to his 2023 album MICHAEL, Killer Mike has just released a series of ten songs titled Michael & The Mighty Midnight Revival, Songs For Sinners & Saints. With captivating beats and compelling lyrics, he shared these songs with his fans as a thank you for their constant support. The Grammy Award-winner shared the news on social media, along with what is to be expected within the tracks, stating, “After the celebratory atmosphere that followed MICHAEL I was reminded that tribulations never cease, but God is always with me and this is a testimonial of my tumultuous times, my trials, and my continued triumph in spite of doubt, outright hate, and fear.”
Tracks such as “NOBODY KNOWS,” “HIGHER LEVEL,” and “97 3-6 FREESTYLE,” have a hard-hitting sound while other tracks, such as “EXIT 9 (SCENIC ROUTE),” “SLUMMER 4 JUNKIES,” and “LORD PREPARE ME (feat. JANE HANDCOCK & Adonica Nunn),” have a slower-paced but still enthralling sound. HUMBLE ME” holds a lot of meaning in the lyrics as the track reflects back in early 2024 when he was arrested shortly after the Grammys. According to Variety, “Mike was booked on a charge of misdemeanor battery, and a few days after the arrest, he explained that he had gotten into an altercation with a security guard.” He reflects back on that time in his lyrics, stating, “I won at the Grammys for spitting my grammar, did that for Atlanta / Swept up like a janitor / Got sent to the slammer.” The black-and-white music video for this track is both creative and impactful.
Killer Mike, formally known as Michael Santiago Render, came onto the rap scene in the early 2000s, and has created some of the most creative and successful rap albums in the music industry, such as Killer Mike Chronicles, Monster, BANGx3, and, of course, MICHAEL. Pitchfork described the album as, “an origin story that works best when it examines how worshiping at the altars of sex, money, and Jesus created the man we know today.” MICHAEL has won the artist three Grammys and won Album of the Year at the BET Awards.
