I Feel Fine sets the caliber for a group of fun-loving friends getting together and making music. The group originally started in 2014 after eventually coming together from an ad posted online. The group consists of Antoine, Joe, Jack, and Nathan; a melting pot of guitars, drums, and vocals. While there isn’t one main singer, they incorporate the diversity of their voices to create a unique aura. I sat down with I Feel Fine to learn more about their upcoming September 10th album release of “The Cold In Every Shelter”, “The album is about seeing other people around you dealing with things easily when you’re not dealing with them easily…really going out of your comfort zone to achieve self-betterment”. Their songwriting process for the album was not only unique but emphasizes the importance of time, communication and reflection. “We went on a writing holiday in Belgium… we would write in separate rooms and then gather together.” I Feel Fine’s music consistently proves that all you need is the simplicity of a group of friends, some instruments, and a story to create something meaningful.
“Selfsame”
“Selfsame” is I Feel Fine’s latest 2021 single. I Feel Fine describes the song as “The process of identifying your flaws that keep coming back.” The music video for “Selfsame” highlights the idea of going on a seemingly never-ending journey through infinite loops while always ending up at the same place. Listening to the song, everything around you stops as if you are in a crowd full of people and all that you can focus on is the feeling you are experiencing. I Feel Fine notes on the repetition of the song, “This is one of our rarer songs that has repeating bits to it purposeful to reflection…hearing and seeing the same thing over again.” “The gang vocals in the song are what make it unique, we sing in unison which is always constant.” “We make music we wish other bands would make” “Selfsame” is distinctive yet familiar and tells a story that everyone experiences through a fresh perspective.
