KASIA Writes and Sends ‘From KASIA, With Love’
On November 22, Catherine Krol, or KASIA, showcases her debut album ‘From KASIA, With Love’. A gift for the holidays. The singer-songwriter releases her emotions with the help of multiple features.
Musically, the album is a smooth and melodic piece. Influences from bossa nova and jazz can be heard in the record. For example, the song “End Of Our Time takes clear inspiration from the bossa nova genre with the acoustic guitar and shakers behind melodic vocals. Then, the track ‘Lovesick’ demonstrates another one of Krol’s strengths, indie-folk. She keeps with the acoustic guitar but adds in an electric one and some faint drums. There is also a spoken word track, ‘From KASIA’. In the track, she says, after the twinkle of a bell,
“To everyone I love, I hope my love is a warm fire, a sustaining ember that you can hold on to,
Because you see, all else feels faint in comparison, Know that I am filled with warmth when I think of you.
I expect great things from you. I trust you. And that trust is not to be diminished.”
Finding love and accepting love is the inspiration for the record. Krol herself said,
“The album is an open letter to lovers, friends, and family, touching on themes such as long-distance relationships, unrequited love, and fading romance.”
Other than the concept of love that drove her creation of the album, her musical background helped originally amplify that concept.
KASIA Has Her Inspiration
This album has been two years in the making. KASIA recorded it in two Chicago apartments, a local studio in Fort Knox, and a Polish church, St. Constant. Her experience in playing multiple genres of music like bossa nova, jazz, indie-folk, and soul contributed to the sound she was able to culminate on her debut project. Her emotionally compelling songwriting draws influence from soulful divas like Amy Winehouse, Alicia Keys, and Christina Aguilera. Although some could consider ‘From KAiSA With Love’ pop, the soul is what really stands out. There is deep emotion behind the creation of this record and you can tell from the stories these songs share. Both musically and lyrically.
