Kashbocks just wants to “make u proud”
On Wednesday April 29th, California native Kazu, under the name Kashbocks, released his new single “make u proud”. The 23 year-old up and coming alternative hip hop indie pop artist continues to push the boundaries of different musical genres. With his thought provoking and insightful lyrics, listeners are taken through an experience like no other. A deeper meaning is found by analyzing the complexities and hardships of life itself.
The Story of “make u proud”
Kazu himself has always loved music and originally started this journey for fun, rapping on Soundcloud beats in high school. His musical approach is simple and impulsive. Kazu stresses the importance of recording ideas the second it comes to him as melodies ebb and flow very quickly. And somewhere down the line an avante garde, versatile, lyrical genius was born.
A stranger approaches you and your brother playing guitar by a river. How could you know that, in just a couple of minutes, your next hit song would be because of him? “make u proud” is a deeply personal song about the experiences of Kazu and his brother upon visiting Japan for the first time. An older gentlemen approached the two young men while playing guitar by a river. He told them how beautiful it was that they were young and chasing a dream. The man expressed his gratitude and well wishes for the boys, but his eyes revealed deep sadness. He longed to be young again, “Dreaming isn’t for old people like him” he said, “My only dream everyday is to wake up the next morning.”
Life as a privilege
To many, this moment may not have seemed significant — just the wise words of an older man lost in history forever. But not for a man like Kazu, “I felt so inspired after talking to him and “make u proud” kinda came about It was one of the fastest songs I’ve ever written.” Life is a privilege. A platform is a privilege. Being young and lively should not be taken for granted. Kazu knows this.
This song emphasizes these ideas and then some. He tugs at the heart strings while making the listener aware of how precious yet fragile life it. Kazu’s passion for music is undisputed. Still young, hungry and eager to grow, Kazu will always have a soft spot for the old man. He owes it to him to try, “Old man I hope I can make u proud someday I will be a star cause of you.”
