Fenix Flexin Drops Music Video for Hot 100 Smash “RUBBERZ”
Fenix Flexin took the music world by surprise when he released “Rubberz,” a note-perfect tribute to the ’80s pop and New Wave he loved in his youth. Today, after reaching the Billboard Hot 100, topping viral charts, racking up more than 45 million total streams, and becoming one of the year’s most talked-about songs, “Rubberz” receives an official music video, live now on Fenix’s YouTube.
Directed by Sebastian Beltran, the new music video benefits from the same contrast between retro pop stylings and L.A. street culture that powered the song. Fenix pours double cups, rides in muscle cars, and romances a baddie in a room decked with era-appropriate posters (eagle-eyed fans can spot Madonna, AC/DC, N.W.A., Cheech & Chong, and many more). Beltran films the video with a VHS grain and neon-lit atmosphere that echoes the Early MTV era, with references to videos by the likes of The Human League and Stevie Nicks, mixing in nods to clips for Fenix’s hits as a member of Shoreline Mafia, like “Trap House” (whose lead artist, 03 Greedo, makes a cameo in the video) and other iconic elements of L.A. street culture.
The music video for “Rubberz” continues a torrid run for the L.A. rapper, whose drastic change of sound has drawn notice from The New York Times, GQ, Complex, Pitchfork, and many others, and has earned Fenix his biggest hit to date. Produced by Purps of 808 Mafia, “Rubberz” first went viral as a snippet, drawing co-signs from some of music’s biggest stars, including Tyler, The Creator, who said “so sickkkk kill them adlibs add some vocal pads very cool,” and other heavy-hitters like Justin Bieber, Wiz Khalifa, E-40, French Montana, Max B, and many more. Since its official release, “Rubberz” has become a meteoric success, reaching #1 on the worldwide Shazam 200 chart, topping Instagram’s Trending Sounds chart, climbing to #1 on Apple Music’s Alternative Songs chart and #23 on Apple’s All-Genres Chart, reaching the top 10 of YouTube’s Trending Chart (on its still image audio), and peaking at #63 on the most recent Billboard Hot 100. “Rubberz” inspired one of the year’s most-enduring TikTok trends, showcasing fans’ 80s transformations after listening to the song (“Rubberz” currently sits in the TikTok Top 50). Beyond the internet, “Rubberz” is making waves at radio, where it currently sits at #24 on Rhythmic Radio with more than 1500 spins across the nation to date.
“Rubberz” continues a crazy year for Fenix Flexin, arriving in the wake of BIDNESS IS BOOMIN, the new EP by Shoreline Mafia. Created with his rap partner OHGEESY, BIDNESS IS BOOMIN is home to Shoreline’s hit single “ROCKIN,” a speaker-knocking banger that samples Debbie Deb’s 1986 classic “Funky Little Beat.” “ROCKIN” hit big on urban radio, reaching the national Top 15, generated over 7.8 million YouTube views, and more than 36 million Spotify streams. BIDNESS IS BOOMIN is available on all platforms via 300 Ent. Shoreline Mafia plans to hit the road this fall, joining $uicideboy$ for several dates on their popular “Grey Day Tour.”
With “Rubberz” out now and much more music on the way, Fenix Flexin and OHGEESY plan to pursue solo albums before reuniting for another blockbuster as Shoreline Mafia. Stay tuned, as Fenix Flexin continues to confound expectations and rocket up charts.
