DEAD CHIC Releases Powerful, Luminous & Epic Track ‘Fortune’!

A few bars of galloping drums and suddenly the landscape widens. For Dead Chic, the plain is in front of us, and we rush into it at full speed. Such is the opening of ‘Fortune’, the powerful, luminous and epic next taster of Dead Chic’s highly anticipated forthcoming debut album ‘Serenades And Damnation’.

We feel the immensity and the solitude as Andy Balcon’s words use these soundscapes to paint a picture of our lives as human beings lost in cities, in the advancing mass. How does one give meaning to existence?  How does one stay on course and not compromise themselves? By trying to stay straight, proud, free and bold.

Andy Balcon met his Dead Chic co-conspirator Damien Félix a few years ago while touring with their respective bands (Heymooshaker and Catfish), frequently crossing paths on the road and catching up backstage to discuss music, idols, and the possibility of collaborating. After a few years without crossing paths, they reconnected in the fall of 2020. Before discussing musical influences, Andy and Damien shared visual references, illustrations, and landscapes that would form the foundation and direction of their work. The idea of working together then took a serious turn, and after some exchanges, “Too Far Gone,” their first track, was released in 2022.

They were then joined by Rémi Ferbus on drums (known for his work with Kimberose, Mélissa Laveaux, among others), who had previously collaborated with Andy; and Mathis Akenginon keyboards, a long-time collaborator of Damien in Catfish. Over the years, through tours and travels, the musicians have honed their skills, enriched their cultural knowledge, and defined their individual styles. The combination of the four immediately sparked.

‘Fortune’ follows recent single ‘Paris’, which gained airplay from Radio X’s John Kennedy and high praise from Rolling Stone Magazine. Other previous singles and releases have gained love from Under The Radar, Earmilk, Louder Than War and more, building a steady path for Dead Chic to emerge as one of 2024’s the most special and exciting new bands.
